Practical support for innovators in healthcare

DATES: 30th, 31st October and 7th, 8th November 2018

VENUE: The Jockey Club, Exeter Racecourse, Kennford, Exeter EX6 7XS

Following on from the success of the last three years, SETsquared alongside the South West Academic Health Science Network, will once again be providing a comprehensive business support programme to healthcare and life sciences ventures.

The programme is open to all - it is ideal for entrepreneurs with an idea for a health-based product or service and founders of early-stage ventures, as well as more experienced entrepreneurs launching a new product/ventures.

Priority will be given to applicants located in the South West Academic Health Science Network's geographical operating boundary, which includes Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. However applications from neighbouring areas may also be considered.

This is an immersive and interactive 4-day training course where you will develop your business idea, analyse your market and potential customers, develop a compelling pitch and look at funding strategies. It culminates with the opportunity to pitch to a panel of investors and healthcare experts, who will provide invaluable feedback for you to take your business forward. Participation in this event is free of charge and supported by the South West Academic Health Science Network.

The programme includes sessions on how to write a great business plan, understanding the NHS as a marketplace, getting to grips with company valuations, funding sources, and how to pitch for investment. It also includes sessions on how to understand and explain the value that your product will bring to healthcare customers, and the regulatory and information governance standards that have to be met to bring a product to the healthcare market and how to tap into the national schemes available to support the adoption of innovation.

This is a personal skills development course that aims to enable individuals to take well-formed innovative proposals to business realisation.

You will have the opportunity to learn core skills in entrepreneurship and develop skills in the areas of:

  • Customer analysis

  • Building a business case

  • Funding strategies

  • Market analysis

Download the Programme Agenda.

The course will provide:

  • an opportunity to make a compelling pitch to an experienced panel

  • a great way to network with like-minded innovators

  • friendly environment to try-out your ideas

  • a chance to get continuing support from us to further develop your proposition

Places on the course for entrepreneurs are sponsored by the South West Academic Health Science Network - however they are limited to 15 places available and application selection will be on a competitive basis.

Please find more info here: Candidate Selection Criteria

Successful completion of the course gives an opportunity to apply for additional coaching and mentoring to support taking your proposal forward.
