Bristol graduates win national engineering competition

Congratulations go to the inventors of a portable menstrual cup cleaning case who have won a national engineering competition.

Bristol graduates Kira Goode and Monica Wai, won a contest that was held by the Royal Academy of Engineering. The competition invited the public to submit ideas that make life more sustainable, with the prize being mentorship from Dragons’ Den investor Deborah Meaden and an engineering entrepreneur.

Kira and Monica invented the case, which makes the menstrual cup sterilisation process quicker and more discreet. Originally known as Cup Squared, the company has now rebranded to Eleria.

The team were part of the pitching line-up at SETsquared’s Investment Showcase in 2022, receiving support to get investor-ready and pitch-perfect to attract the right funding partners. They also received support from the student enterprise team at the University of Bristol to develop their business proposition.

“Our project started as research at the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in our final year at the University of Bristol. Since graduating, we have received some amazing support in grant funding from Runway and the Jim and Peggy Wilkinson Fund, as well as access to contacts and mentorship from Bristol’s Enterprise team.”

“We are currently raising pre-seed investment, SEIS and EIS eligible, of £250k and would love to hear from anyone who is interested in being part of what we’re doing.”
