GW-SHIFT Seminar Series: Hydrogen in Offshore Renewable Energy Integration

GW-SHIFT Seminar Series: Hydrogen in Offshore Renewable Energy Integration

Hydrogen in Offshore Renewable Energy Integration

Offshore renewable energy, specifically wind, tidal stream and wave power, holds massive potential for shaping a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. But what if we could take it a step further? By integrating hydrogen production into offshore energy systems, we can unlock even greater opportunities for providing green energy.

About the session

Join Professor Deborah Greaves OBE FREng, Professor in Ocean Engineering, and Dr Yeaw Chu Lee, Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Plymouth, as they delve into the exciting possibilities of harnessing offshore renewable energy to create hydrogen, as well as the dynamics of liquid hydrogen sloshing in storage and transport, such as in aircraft fuel tanks.

Offshore wind and wave sources provide consistent, high-capacity power generation. But why go beyond simply using this electricity directly? Hydrogen made from renewable electricity offers a unique, green solution to the intermittent nature of renewables. Hydrogen can be stored over longer periods, transported across regions, and used to meet energy demand when renewable generation is low or unavailable.

However, producing hydrogen from offshore energy isn’t without its challenges. From the complex logistics of offshore energy integration to the technical difficulties of scaling up production in challenging marine environments, this session will explore the real-world hurdles that need to be addressed.

In this insightful and forward-thinking webinar, the experts will also explore how the integration of offshore renewable energy and hydrogen production can be a key driver in decarbonising industries and achieving Net Zero goals. With both experts sharing their research and deep industry knowledge, you’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of the potential, and the challenges, of this exciting energy landscape.

Who Should Attend?

This session is perfect for engineers, researchers, energy professionals, policymakers, and anyone passionate about the future of hydrogen and renewable energy. Whether you’re deeply involved in energy systems or simply curious about the innovative technologies driving the Net Zero transition, this webinar will provide you with invaluable insights from leading experts in the field.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to hear from two respected experts at the forefront of hydrogen and offshore renewable energy innovation. Register now and be part of the conversation that’s shaping the future of energy.
