Standardisation impacts almost everything we do, from driving a car to choosing paint, and it is the commercial bedrock of many multi-billion dollar businesses – it is especially important in ICT, and that is the focus of this session.

In this short training session, we explain what standardisation is, explore the benefits, and highlight the different types of standard and how they relate to regulations. We build an appreciation of the scale and extent of standardisation by briefly considering modern living environments before focusing squarely on ICT.

In particular, we look at how standardisation evolved within the telecoms and ICT sector, which organisations are involved, what the ICT standards ecosystem looks like, and how individual standards are produced and updated.
