WORLD LEADING BUSINESS SUPPORT
This grant, which is a collaboration with the University of Bath and Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd, will propel its AirWing technology to the next level, integrating AI-driven, self-learning control systems to optimise performance in real-time.
AirWing™ is a Patented technology capable of producing exceptional fuel savings and greenhouse gas emission reductions for retrofit and new-build vessels.
GT Wings is a member of SETsquared’s Hydrogen & Sustainable Transport Economy Accelerator (HSTEA) programme, which supported the successful bid with an introduction to an academic, project design, consortia building, and bid writing.
George Thompson, Chief Executive Officer, GT Green Technologies, said: “Support from the HSTEA project has been invaluable, saving us considerable time and money to complete this successful grant application. University expertise will be key in delivering this project, which will help us take a significant step forward in our mission to help decarbonise the maritime industry and significantly reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.”
The University of Bath will play a critical role in the project. Dr Nathan Sell from the Department of Mechanical Engineering will collaborate with GT to develop and implement AI algorithms for self-learning wing trim optimisation. This includes expertise in artificial intelligence, control systems, and maritime technology. This will be pivotal in ensuring the successful integration and optimisation of the AI technology within the AirWing™ system.
Carisbrooke Shipping, a UK shipowner and operator based on the Isle of Wight will install the prototype AirWing20 aboard Vectis and support the implementation of the self-learning control system.
